Spinal column procedures - without pain? If a spinal column procedure with local anesthetic is planned, the cooperating anesthesiologist conducts a so-called analgesia in addition to the local anesthetic administered by the surgeon.
For the patient, this means a pain-free and relaxing operation . Sometimes patients even sleep through their procedure.
Follow-up
Following out-patient spinal column procedures, we recommend a control examination within three days. By in-patient treatments, this occurs on the day of discharge. Further control examinations can be conducted by an orthopedist or neurosurgeon in the patient's home town, and, of course, also in our clinic after four to six weeks. Depending upon the type of surgical procedure, you will begin as early as two to three weeks after the operation with an individually-coordinated physical therapy program, either in our clinic or in your home town. We recommend that a muscle-function test be conducted in advance of the operation according to the new "FPZ concept" (loose English translation: "RPC" concept refers to an analysis-supported medical training therapy for the spinal column developed by the Research and Prevention Center of Cologne). This muscle test can determine which back and rump muscles are guarantee a sufficiently stabile spinal column, or which muscles are must be trained as necessary.
Sports
If you were active in a particular sport prior to spinal column surgery, then you can usually expect to take it up again following a period of recuperation. You will receive consultation concerning which sports are and aren't recommended in your case. Furthermore, we recommend that you implement a specially-coordinated muscle-training program, for instance, in a medically conducted fitness studio.
