Percutaneous procedure via micro-trocar By certain non-bony herniated discs of the cervical spinal column (so-called soft cases), a special operating technique can be applied with the help of a trocar. This method is gentle on the musculature and the stromata surrounding the spinal column, and minimizes the risk of painful scar-tissue build-up.
Operating technique
With the patient under full narcosis, the doctor makes a circa 15 millimeter incision in the neck next to the spinal column. Under x-ray guidance, and with the help of a thin needle for orientation, he inserts a micro-trocar with a 10 to 15 millimeter diameter up to the spinal column. The trocar lies directly over the herniated disc. Now the surgeon opens the vertebral canal under direct observation through a microscope with special microscopic instruments and exposes the herniated disc. With fine forceps, he removes the herniated disc and so relieves the pinched spinal nerve.
Indication
This is an effective operating procedure in one-sided, localized herniated discs of the cervical spinal column with spinal nerve compression.
