Modern Osteoporosis Therapy Even the loss of bone substance can be undone. Early diagnosis is the only way to recognize and treat osteoporosis in time. Bone loss is not an old age disease. It begins often already in younger years- creeping in unnoticed.
Regretfully, osteoporosis is often first noticed when it is already too late and frequent breaks or deformations of the spinal column have occurred.
Severe back pain, caused by muscle tension as a result of bony changes of the spinal column, can be a sign of osteoporosis. In middle- to old age (with women often in their late 50's), osteoporosis causes a reduction in bone substance resulting in an increased risk of breakage. In advanced stages, vertebral fractures can occur mere by bending over normally. And by otherwise harmless falls - even by propping oneself up or bumping into something - thighbone and forearm breaks can occur.
Osteoporosis is not a women's disease - after all, 20 percent of all men suffer from decalcification in their lifetime. By the way: In Germany, an osteoporotic thighbone-, forearm-, or vertebral break happens every 1 ½ minutes. Regretfully, most patients remain in need of care following a fracture. That is why the prophylaxis and treatment of osteoporosis is ever more important. Today, through modern therapies, osteoporosis can even be partially stopped.
