Modern Arthrosis Therapy II. Cartilage surgery. Artificial joints. Features and benefits Value
It remains to be seen to which degree the new methods of therapy, such as cartilage transplantation and cartilage cell cultivation, further develop. Until now, their application has been restricted to smaller cartilage damage. The previous results are promising for the future. By advanced arthrose and corresponding severe pain, joint replacement in the form of endoprostheses is
still a very good method to achieve longer lasting freedom from pain - especially considering that modern prostheses are constantly being further developed and optimized.
Sports
How long the joint or limb that was operated on must be handled with care depends on the specific operating
procedure. For instance, the load on one's legs can be supported with the help of a walker. Sports can be reintroduced step for step following this phase. If an artificial joint has been fitted, individual sport consultation is necessary. Contact sports are less advisable, in order to prevent a premature loosening.
