Painkillers. How can medication help? Most painkillers act on nerve conductors and stop or suppress pain signals from being sent to the brain. Although the actual cause is not eliminated, the patient no longer feels any pain. Modern medications are helpful in particular for those with strong or chronic pains: "They act quickly, are reliable, and can be intelligently administered. Naturally, medicinal pain therapy should only be conducted in combination with further measures which act upon the cause of pain, such as minimally invasive pain therapy", says Dr. Schneiderhan. "Even so, medicinal pain therapy should always be preceded by a comprehensive and precise diagnosis in order to recognize the actual cause of pain."
