Percutaneous procedure via micro-trocar This minimally invasive method can be used with many herniated discs of the lumbar spinal column. Particularly in the nerve root canal, sequestered herniated discs can be precisely and gently removed in this manner. The microtherapeutic entry through the skin (percutaneous entry) is gentle on the tissue and minimizes the danger of a much-feared build-up of scar-tissue in the area of the disc and around the spinal nerve.
Surgical technique
Under narcosis, a tiny incision is made in the skin next to the spinal column and a cannula is inserted with x-ray assistance up to the exact point of the nerve root canal (neuroforamen). The microtherapeutic cannula is then brought close to the herniated disc. With fine forceps, the doctor then removes the herniated disc under direct observation through a surgical microscope, and so relieves the pinched nerve in the nerve root canal.
Indication
- an effective procedure for sequestered herniated discs in the nerve root canal and a pinched spinal nerve
- an effective operating procedure for hidden, non-sequestered, one-sided herniated discs
