Heat probe treatment of the Dorsal Root Ganglion. Features and benefits Value
Percutaneous thermocoagulation has the advantage of precision, as compared to the pharmacological ablation (medicinal nerve suppression). In comparison to cryotherapy (freezing of nerves), percutaneous thermocoagulation lasts longer. It works for years, whereas cryotherapy works for only a few months.
Advantage
This is a minimally invasive procedure and can be conducted on an outpatient basis in our clinic. Costly open surgery, such as foraminotomy (widening of the intervertebral foramen) or hemilaminectomy (partial removal of vertebral lamina) with additional stabilizing or reinforcement surgery can be avoided. Early mobilization and follow-up treatment are possible.
Follow-up
Immediately following the procedure, a stabilizing and isometric physiotherapy program can begin. Supplementary physiotherapeutic measures, such as electrotherapy, balneotherapy, or heat and massage applications can be combined as necessary.
Ability to work
Physical work and light physical activity, such as office work, can begin again immediately following the procedure.
Sports
Physical activity through various sports is possible shortly following the procedure.
Results
A success rate of over 80 percent is quoted in national and international publications.
