Diagnostics. Measuring bone density The proficient measurement of bone density belongs to the most important measures of early detection and diagnosis of osteoporosis. The patient lies on an examination table. Above is an x-ray tube that fires only a single beam of radiation downward and moves like a bridge slowly over the spinal column and hips. This mini-beam is received and processed by a measuring device beneath the table. The radiation amounts to only a one-seventieth of a normal x-ray image.
The more radiation received by the measuring device, the less mineral content of the bone. In the case of osteoporosis, the treatment should be made every nine to twelve months and bone density checked. This is completely harmless.
