Pain therapy. Botulinum-Toxin New therapy for stress-related headaches, as well as back and neck pain
Through the injection of minimal amounts of botulinum-toxin in the painful muscle cramps (the so-called trigger points), the vicious circle of muscle cramping and pain is broken. Extremely thin cannulae are used, as with insulin injections. Botulinum-toxin is made up of the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. In small doses it interrupts the transfer of impulses from nerve fibers to the musculature. Consequence: owing to a temporary paralysis, the muscles relax and stress-related headaches, as well as back and neck pain disappears. A noticeable effect occurs two to ten days after the injection. It lasts three to six months, and can be repeated. Following successive injections, the botulinum-toxin works even up to one year.
