Prevention as main idea Prevention is a basic osteopathic principle as well as one of its primary goals. The osteopath can already recognize and treat discrete functional disturbances before they develop into manifest diseases. The osteopath can therefore already be active even before the appearance of pain, or in the case of light pain, which is often not yet diagnosable through the methods of orthodox medicine. Furthermore, osteopathy is very successful by chronic pain conditions of the motion apparatus and functional organ disturbances.
Also, osteopathy can be implemented parallel to treatment by a family doctor, orthopedist, internist, or other specialist - even more so considering that osteopathy activates the self-healing powers of the body. A further advantage of osteopathy can be found in diseases that have been "therapied out". That is, when other methods of treatment are no longer successful, frequently with osteopathy at least a soothing of pain can be achieved.
